More than 1 million people in Serbia have received their first COVID-19 shot, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to state-run news agency Tanjug, more than 1 million people received their first dose of the vaccine, while some 356,010 people have been administered the second dose.

The vaccination campaign in Serbia began on Jan 19th.

Serbia is in the second place in Europe and seventh in the world in terms of the number of vaccinated per million inhabitants, according to Our World in Data tracking website.

Meanwhile, North Macedonia received nearly 5,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine from Serbia, while Montenegro received 2,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines.

Serbia received 1.5 million doses of coronavirus vaccines developed by China's Sinopharm as well as 19,500 vaccines developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and 250,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine.

Another 50,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, 88,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and 125,000-150,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are due in the country by the end of February.
