Within the framework of bilateral economic relations, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany are strengthening economic exchange, the German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced after the third meeting of the B&H-German working group on economic issues which was held online.

The working group included numerous representatives of line ministries, economy and administration, led by Dragiša Mekić, Assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of B&H and Helge Tolksdorf, Head of the EU Enlargement Department, Southeast Europe and Turkey at the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.

The participants discussed general issues of economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as specific issues of selected economic sectors and individual investments.

Even in the crisis, Germany remained the main trade partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina, so cooperation between the countries can be an important support on the way out of the crisis.

Helge Tolksdorf also emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and ongoing exchange. Important terms to be shared are, within the framework of the Berlin Process - the meeting of the Prime Ministers in the summer of 2021 and the meeting of the Ministers of Economy next June, which are also held at the request of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Margret Uebber, German Ambassador to B&H, greeted the participants and expressed satisfaction that the meeting was held again for the first time in two years.

The bilateral working group was established in 2017. It usually meets once a year with the same members.

In 2019 and 2020, the working group did not meet due to the non-formation of the government in BiH, and in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
