Assistant Minister of Health of the Federation of B&H Goran Čerkez said today that the epidemiological situation is still improving, but that it is necessary to continue adhering to the measures, given that there is a high risk of developing coronavirus delta strains.

-The epidemiological situation continues to improve, the number of coronavirus cases has decreased by 18.7 percent compared to last week, as many as 25 percent fewer people are in hospital, and mortality has also decreased by 60 percent compared to last week- stated Čerkez at the press conference in Sarajevo after the session of the FB&H Government.

He added that the F&iH Government decided, on the recommendation of the Crisis Staff, to extend the existing measures for the next period of 15 days. Regardless of such a stable epidemiological situation, according to him, we should be careful that a delta strain of the virus has already appeared in our immediate neighborhood.

Taking into account the shortcomings in the continuous and consistent adherence to the measures, and the low number of immunized persons in B&H, as Čerkez said, they believe that the risk of the new virus is extremely high, which was the reason to extend the measures.

-The process of immunization continues. So far, more than 236 thousand vaccines have been administered, of which more than 148 thousand with one dose, and more than 88 thousand with both doses. In order to accurately inform the public, I am obliged to say that B&H has so far procured 278,970 vaccines through Covax and the European mechanism, as opposed to the donated 210,000 vaccines. Therefore, B&H, i.e. the Federation of B&H, bought more vaccines than was obtained through donations- Čerkez pointed out.

In the next period, as he said, taking into account what was agreed and bought for B&H, more than 3,238,000 vaccines are expected.
