Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić and Speaker of the House of Peoples Bakir Izetbegović sent an open letter to European Parliament President David Sassoli, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, European Council President Charles Michel and members of the Council, Speakers of the House of Representatives and Senate in the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi and Joseph Leahy, and other relevant representatives of the EU institutions, the Council of Europe and the United States.
The letter was sent to several hundred addresses, including all MEPs, members of the Group of Friends of B&H in the US Congress, and the foreign ministers of EU member states.
In the letter, Zvizdić and Izetbegović warned about the current situation in B&H and the possibility of escalation of tensions created by unconstitutional and unlawful activities of part of the political forces from the RS entity.
Izetbegović and Zvizdić remind that the EU and the United States are among the signatories of the Dayton Agreement and that they have the obligation to react in case of violation of its provisions, and that, concrete activities are expected that would confirm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of B&H.
- Any calculation and postponement of a concrete reaction has a stimulating effect on those who seek to dismantle the Dayton Peace Agreement, and thus endanger peace and stability in B&H, the region, and even in the rest of the European continent.
Only with a joint decisive reaction, us in B&H, the EU and the USA, and other guarantors-witnesses of the signatories of the Dayton Peace Agreement, we will be able to stop the catastrophic consequences that would arise as a result of threats from Dodik's political followers from the entity of RS.
An alternative to that is the collapse of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and thus peace in B&H. We must prevent this scenario by all means - it is stated in the letter, among other things.
